Home Office Weekly Updates

25th April- 1 May 2022

It was big week for the Government and Home Office with the passing of 5 pieces of legislation. The Nationality and Borders Act 2022 is the stand out attempt to redefine immigration entry into the UK and fulfil the desire to control UK Borders. Home Secretary, Priti Patel, said “This is a huge milestone in our commitment to our promise to the British public – a fair but firm immigration system”.

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Dominic Raab said  “This government has been clear in its commitment to cut crime and protect the public – and today we are delivering on that promise” and so they passed. The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts (PCSC) Act, The Judicial Review and Courts Act, The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act and The Approved Premises (Substance Testing) Act.

An important consultation on controlling & coercive behaviour alongside a ten plan to cut drugs and crime were published this week. Two policies to helps cut crime over the long term.

Collection data reflected and emphasis on crime whilst transparency numbers and statistics mirrored this. Two documents for those interested in personal liberty would review the DNA database lists and the funding of the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF).

On a lighter not the government extended licensing for pubs during the silver Jubilee to 1am.

He strongly believes his background and route through life enables him to understand both the needs of communities affected by immigration and the life of immigrants who have settled in the UK. He passionately believe Britain is not a racist nation, but a fair one where all can live but policies need to address the inequities in society and the impacts of immigration both positive and negative.
