Home Office Weekly Updates

28 March – 3 April 2022

No doubt stung by the criticism of their inaction (or action) towards the Ukrainian Homes Schemes and visas the Home Office issued eight guidance and transparency documents on the subject. In addition, Priti Patel discussed the Ukraine situation with Israel on her visit there.

News stories this week covered the £130 million “whole system approach” to tackling violent and homicide; a domestic crime plan and another Windrush update ( as well as another update report)

The usual immigration rules updates were issued alongside athe end of the consultaion on the immigration  plan. In the area of crime the Home Office went big with reports on tackling domestic abuse, supporting male victims of crimes, Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill 2021: factsheets and “From harm to hope” a 10-year drugs plan to cut crime and save lives by reducing the supply and demand for drugs.

16 guidance notes were issued. The bulk were on Ukraine schemes , but notably there were two on immigration centres, one involving modern slavery and another on fire are licenses.

A raft of data on wages, salaries and spending of home official staff and officials were dated alongside the country returns data,

The collections of data on a wide range of areas were also updated. Domestic homicide review, Policing statistics (including breakdowns of workforce numbers by police force area), Police workforce statistics, Crime statistics (including crime against businesses statistics). All in all a lot to catch up on. Until next week.

He strongly believes his background and route through life enables him to understand both the needs of communities affected by immigration and the life of immigrants who have settled in the UK. He passionately believe Britain is not a racist nation, but a fair one where all can live but policies need to address the inequities in society and the impacts of immigration both positive and negative.
